A man who impaled himself in a workplace accident at Redhead on Tuesday morning has been taken to hospital.
NSW Fire and Rescue confirmed that firefighters were called to the scene on Dodds Street about 10am on Tuesday, August 18.
When they arrived, the crews in attendance found a man in his 20s had suffered injuries to his forearm.
Initial reports indicated the 20-year-old had reportedly fallen at a building site and became impaled on some sheeting.
It is unclear what caused the man to fall and become impaled on the sheeting.
Authorities confirmed that after some time firefighters were able to cut the man free so he could be taken from Lake Macquarie to hospital.
NSW Ambulance paramedics also arrived about 10am and treated the man at the scene before he was taken to hospital.
He was then taken to John Hunter Hospital by ambulance in a stable condition.
