Big Wedding will have you believe that every engagement involves a sunset, a hidden photographer, and a ring that catches the light at exactly the right moment. And for a lucky few future brides, that Pinterest moment pans out.
But when one woman shared a video of her partner’s nerves visibly bubbling to the surface before he popped the question, the comments came flooding in. It turns out, most engagement stories are a symphony of sheer chaos. On this thread, you won’t find a single perfect moment, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

I told him we didn’t have to go on our date because his stomach was obviously bothering him. He said NO WE HAVE TO GO

I made us late to the proposal he planned because he took me to a pumpkin patch before and they had a petting zoo area and I refused to leave before I pet the mini pig. He looked nauseated 😂

We were in Costa Rica- he knew I wanted it to be outside- well it’s a rainforest…he was nervous of me being out in the rain, he ran inside the hotel 3-4 times in the span of an hour cancelling then uncancelling, then cancelling & uncancelling our engagement to our friends and hotel staff. Anyway- the rain made for some awesome mist off the hot springs 10/10- glad it wasn’t cancelled

My husband (of 20+ years) and I were living together at the time and he had planned on how to propose to me. I told him I was going to be working overtime until a certain time. He had everything planned. I decided, without telling him, that I was tired of being at work and came home about 1 or so hours earlier than planned. He was in the middle of making dinner and preparing everything. To say I ruined his plans is putting it mildly, but we figured it out and obviously I said yes. The only thing he asked of me was to not tell my mom for a little bit so we could get used to the idea. I failed that request. But we are still happy together all these years later, and we communicate with each other MUCH better.

I took my SO to NYC. she knew it was coming that weekend, but cutely refused any proposal unless I "bent the Knee"
I stood and asked in Chinese in China town, Italian in Little Italy, in Hindi at our favorite restaurant, in parseltongue in the Harry Potter store.....all met with a giggle and shake of the head It wasn't until 2:00 am in times square that I bent the knee to get a yes.
