Wrong on both counts. Insurance premiums are strictly controlled, insurance companies make profits but they're not massive and anyone is free to change at the end of each year if their current insurer gets too expensive. And no, it's not "free at point of reception" here.

I had an old friend over for a week recently, known him since childhood, but had forgotten how much he can eat. He's not fat, although since injury stopped his competitive rowing, cycling and swimming he has certainly put on weight, he just eats like he's stoking up for a marathon every day. And yes, is often unaware of others. I recall one time some years ago he'd been with us on a ski trip and we visited an old friend of my wife on our way home. Long story short, he did not seem to realise that the delicious pate was to feed five people, took about half of it in one big slice and put it between a huge chunk of baguette as a sandwich we all looked at each other but said nothing as he was in a very bad mental state at the time.

No, a guest would not normally expect to bring food, except by arrangement. A bottle of wine, a box of chocolates, sure, things that are not part of the meal per se and which a) the host will probably have anyway and b) will be kept for another time if not used, e.g. if a special wine to go with the food has already been opened. (In some circles it is actually considered rude to open the guest's wine just in case it's not good and would embarrass them.)

Not really, at least not in my world. There are ways of asking that might imply it, like "would you let me take you out to dinner?" but a more normal "shall we go out..." would not imply that the asker was offering to pay. Any such assumption is inherently sexist, implying that the man earns more than the woman, which while it may sadly be true in some fields is really not a good way for either party to be thinking on first date. (FWIW I earned more than my late wife for the first few years of our relationship and marriage, then she earned more for the next twenty or more).

No, they're not. Lots of things have changed, and yes, it's more difficult for graduates to get jobs these days. but that's mostly because there are so many more graduates than in the past. In the 'boomer' years of the 1960 approximately 6% of Americans between 10 and 30 had a college degree; the number has increased steadily over the years to around 40% today. From the 1960s through the 1980s demand for degrees in employment was around double the number of young people getting them, nowadays it about the same, so in real terms there are twice as many young graduates competing for each graduate-level job than was true in the boomer years.

Healthcare does not need to be "free" or even public. Here in CH we have one of the best healthcare systems in the world, probably the best anywhere on sheer quality, although cost-per-capita, even adjusted for higher salaries, is higher than some EU countries. It's all done through private health insurance, but every person is obliged, and is guaranteed to be able, to have such insurance. Insurers cannot vary premiums or refuse to cover for pre-existing conditions, for example.

Yeah, I didn't! I joined the military in the 80s because I couldn't find a job (there was a recession). When I got out, I lived with my parents while getting an associates degree on my GI bill. Graduated, but couldn't get a job in my degree (90s recession). Finally got a decent job when I was in my late 20s. Saved up and bought a house at 7% interest. I persevered and bought a different one after the 2008 recession drove housing prices down (foreclosures, value drops by 50%, it was UGLY). They say another housing market collapse is coming. Those who know the system runs in cycles should be ready (stop buying avocado toast yesterday!)!
