Hello, I am French. Anyone who lives in a small town can relate I think. The thing is not to stay on your own. Surprisingly, you find out that out that people are lonely and not too daring. Cute story but it's a weird life juncture for a small child to choose - I doubt a 4 year old has much concept of college graduation ceremonies. As a kid she may have expressed a wish for the cat to be around forever, but I strongly suspect the specifics were made up to match the photo (cue downvotes)
