Tbf the country is massive. All of the states have different histories: some were British crown colonies, some were settled by, basically refugees, some started as completely private ventures (Pennsylvania literally belonged to the Penn family). Texas used to be a separate country. And then there's the traditions brought by all kinds of immigrants: English, German (massive presence!), Italian, Irish, Polish, Jewish. There's also French and Mexican influences.And Chinese. And Japanese. Back in the day it would take months to travel across the country. Problem is, that what we see of it is, very often, what we see in movies and tv, and that is neither realistic nor does it show the complexity of the USA.
