I'm one of those people who can't really "taste" the differences in waters (unless one is seriously chlorinated or mineral water or something.) My mom has a super-expensive $10,000 filtration system installed under her sink and she'll give me glasses of water from it, telling me to "taste how much better it tastes than other water!" I honestly can't tell the difference. But I'm an 80s kid and grew up drinking from hoses, so there's that XD

When I was a Deputy Head at a primary school there were two little girls who we spotted were being neglected by their mum. Mum was an a****t. The girls came to school in shoes that were falling apart, no coats on a cold day, not fed a proper breakfast etc. We did our best to support the family but we got social services involved and, eventually, the girls were taken into care. The mum said "Well I lasted two years longer than my own mum..." Both girls were fostered by an older couple. The girls were white, nominally "Christian", the elderly couple were Asian and Muslim. Well they could not have been kinder or sweeter. They made sure the girls had everything they needed, celebrated Christmas with them, including Christmas presents, invited them to celebrate Eid, if they wanted (the girls were so excited "We got new clothes for Eid and we're having a special meal!"). When the girls were adopted by an different younger childless couple, we had a small thank you party for the Muslim couple

After spending lots of time in Italy (which we adore!) we eventually came up with the 5% rule. No matter how amazing the experience you have to be prepared for the 5% that is f****d up. It might drop to just 1% or go up to 50% plus but if you're prepared for it it's easier to cope with. Our slang for a completely disorganised and chaotic mess became "It was an Italian roundabout of a situation".

I went to a wedding reception where the venue had let them down at the last minute. The bride and groom's families changed the venue to a Chinese restaurant (Groom's family were Chinese). It was a big restaurant, but on several floors. The only way we could watch/listen to the speeches was via a kind of CCTV and the sound meant we couldn't really hear what was said. The food was multiple courses of (obviously) Chinese food. Not very good Chinese food, but hey... And both the bride and groom's families were VERY Christian so no alcohol was served, no dancing etc.
