I have to say, I went to New York in 2002 with my mother. Our hotel was a few blocks from Central Park and we decided to walk there. First block was... white. We didn't see anyone but there was signs on the trees about some neighbours watching (that didn't exist in France at the time and still is rare today), all bins were behind bars, we really didn't feel good, opressed. We passed the street and there were music all around, people sitting in front of the buildings, one guy and a lady were talking from their appartements across the street, kids were running and playing around... everybody were black people. It was really chocking for us to see such difference just across the street and I have to say I felt so much more relax with the children and the music ! We said hello to everyone and they all responded it was so nice ! But it was really like in the movies...

That’s true! I’m a Latvian immigrant who grew somewhere up in the UK, and the food I eat at home can be very, very different to when I’m out and about; but like you said, there is a great difference in food, even in the same country. Though I do think the USA, because of the status as a melting pot, does have a good likelihood to have variations of food from different cultures.
