All the YTA are probably vegan or highly entitled in some way such as being the golden child who doesn't know what the word compromise actually means. It's funny how I never see reddit posts from vegans being guilted and yelled at to eat meat.

I think what bothers me the most is that they already made the plans and she already said she was okay with it then she took it upon herself to change the plans they had for his birthday without even asking him in the first place. I feel like she did this on purpose banking on him feeling bad that she spent all this time making food for him when in reality it's her own fault. She either should have told him she wasn't ok with the restaurant choice to begin with so they could have made a real compromise or if she really was thinking he'd enjoy this at least call him first and ask but she didn't do that because she knew he wouldn't enjoy eating her vegan version of foods he liked rather than going to his favorite restaurant.

This is tricky. I work from home too and the number of family members who think that I can supervise children AND still work is crazy. When my kids were little I put them in day care so that I could get my work done and I would still have family members ask me to take their kids regularly because 'you are home anyway, what difference does it make'. It makes a big difference.

I don't understand these YTA. OP works from Home. If she would work at the office, she wouldn't be there. She doesn't have the time to constantly supervise her sisters kids. Her Job would suffer. These are her kids, so she and her Husband (he still should contribute) should seek a work around and he should definitely contribute money for a babysitter.

I think it's not hard to see why her marriage broke up. She sounds like a narcissist. Her expectations are entirely ridiculous and unrealistic. My best friend of 40+ years had kids and I didn't and she has friends she does stuff with that I'm not involved with, and I'm completely fine with that. Good riddance IMO.

Key word here is “habitual.” If mom of SS does this sort of thing a lot, then limits need to be set. The SS seems to be getting the short shrift here. If this happened one time, then possibly not a big deal. But if it happens regularly, then these are a bunch of self-centered adults, and yes, this lack of consideration will stay with SS a long time effecting his self-esteem and what not. I agree. I would tend towards cancelling the gym class, but the apparently habitual extreme lateness of the request makes me wary. Secondly, the lack of even an *offer* of reimbursement for the gym class would make me refuse to help her (I would of course refuse the reimbursement if she was a nice person). And thirdly, the "selfish" accusation would seal the deal as to any doubts as to what type of person she is and dispel any lingering doubts about being wrong to refuse!

I still don’t understand how an otherwise intelligent, successful, professional man, who’s married to a wonderful intelligent, successful woman like Emma Thompson’s character—-who still loves him and only wants to be with him—-still falls head over heels for a manipulative and predatory piece of tail who you know is only using him to get ahead, and will dump him when he’s no longer useful to her. I mean, f*****g appreciate and hold tight to the true diamond you have, and quit getting blinded and sidetracked by younger cut glass that’s going to make you look like a ridiculous old man who still thinks he’s some kind of a young stud when he isn’t—-except to his wife who only wants to spend the rest of her life with him. I don’t understand the concept of hating the familiarity of marriage and looking outside of it for something new. I love the familiarity and day-to-dayness of marriage, because it’s all part of building a life together. I don’t want to always be starting over and never getting anywhere because you get bored too quickly and start over yet again with someone new.

My theory is that it comes from both nature and nurture. In stories where they are cousins, they probably grew up hearing similar family stories and have similar points of view.
