I'm a former romance novelist, now turning my hand to illustration. Once upon a time I believed the myth that artists were born, not made, but I've since learned that anyone can draw. And the more you draw, the better you get. The more you learn about art, the more you discover you need to learn. It's an endless, joyful voyage of discovery... punctuated by troughs of despair when what comes out on paper is nowhere near what was in your head.
