Not exactly a hack, but some general advice: Young children don’t misbehave, they learn. Therefore, you‘re teaching them. Your toddler is hitting someone? They’re throwing food on the floor? They’re running around at the supermarket? They don’t know better. Therefore, explain, teach. But don’t judge or scold. Having that realisation made such a big difference for me. A kid not knowing that you shouldn’t throw food on the floor is no different from you not knowing how the printer at your new job works. You wouldn’t want to be yelled at for that. You‘d just want someone to explain it to you. The only difference is that with a child, you‘ll often have to explain it dozens of times till they truly learn and remember.

I wear a server apron everyday. I know some people are too stylish for a hack like that but I got some really cute ones on Etsy. When I fly it’s like having an extra carryon and in day to day life it is so easy I am not trying to dig through a diaper bag. I keep my phone, a pen/sharpie, a cloth, snacks, a small toy.

I got the idea from seeing Japanese mothers in smocks.

This can't be a serious post with people honestly treating a toddler like an adult that can search out their own food. I don't get it. What am I missing? This isn't about saying "no" at all. I am just at a loss for people thinking this should be normal. I should probably be more clear. Psychologically speaking, kids ask parents for things all the time. Saying no isn't a bad thing, but when toddlers ask for things they can do on their own they are really just asking for comfort from a parent. Nothing wrong with that. It is a basic child thing they do.

I suspect it's ragebait/karma farming. we have it all: the pure angel OP who could do nothing wrong and helps those in need, the stupid ungrateful AH (the amount of times OP points out that SIL calls the food "bourgeois" is enough proof to see they're trying to write her to be stupid), the strange inconsistencies with time, the thinly veiled plotholes (what do you mean hubby occasionally mixes up two different, labeled lunchboxes because his commute is stressful), the severely demanding ultimatum for one or two little mistakes... it screams "this is so fake but people will comment on it anyways" because it's so surreal and enraging

Unless the parent rolls over to sunbathe and read a book, or get on their phone, as OP mentioned. I personally can be 5 feet away from something and so involved in an activity I don't know it's happening - I believe THAT is OP's complaint - that some parents zone out and abdicate their attention and responsibility, ON PURPOSE.

My husband is the “fun dad” at playgrounds (plays chasing with the kids, sit up on top of the monkey bars with them planning “base attacks” and recreating marvel movies etc. He’s pretty awesome) and will ALWAYS end up with extra kids playing along. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes when he just wants to enjoy the only time he gets with our kids, or if the tag along child is not as physically skilled as ours, it gets instrusive and annoying. And yes, the other parents often use it as an excuse to spend some time on their phone doing the shopping or attend emails or whatever, rather than being involved as well. So, yes it DOES happen to male parents too.

Hi! While I absolutely respect you and your child's preferences on terminology, I must politely interject - as a disabled person - that your opinions (or that of "many people") on the subject aren't necessarily synonymous with all who have experience with these issues. Perhaps it is different for a child as I am an adult in my 40s who had to start drawing Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) in my 20s. I understand my limitations and am aware I am not "able" to do everything everyone else does. That may be difficult for a child to understand so the softening of terms may be beneficial when they're young, though it could also set them up for a rude awakening in adulthood. At least it's better than parking spaces still labeled as handicap! Just as you wouldn't apply for handicap benefits, you also wouldn't apply for special needs benefits. Disabled does not mean less than and is not a word that should be demonized. Wishing you and your child the best!

That was as mean as it was pathetic. So obvious he's envious of her ability and winning. He could, should have waited the other side of the finish line, not throw their kids onto a race track in an attempt to derail her. Instead of celebrating her win he can now spoil it for her by saying she chose her victory over her children. What an absolute petty, spiteful, vindictive little man. What was she doing supposed to do? Pick one up under each arm and finish the race?

Life is the progression of hair from above the temples down out the ears. Some get lost and become errant eyebrows. In all seriousness, anyone have any good ideas about ear hair? I have never waxed anything in my life and the ear and nose trimmer my wife got me doesn't seem to work to well.
