I think it was more like we didn’t have so many chemicals and c**p additives in our food, or “improvements” in our farming techniques back in the day. Fresh fruits and vegetables were fresh, not picked too early and forced, so they tasted like they’re supposed to. They were also not grown for perfect looks but for taste. Even the junk food back in the day was made with real ingredients and tasted like it, instead of tasting like science projects created in a lab. I recently revisited some snacks from my childhood (I’m 65 now, so we’re talking 1960s and 1970s), and they taste NOTHING like they did back in the day, mostly because the real ingredients they used to use have been replaced with chemical c**p or cheap substitutes that rob them of their flavor. So many of them had chemical aftertastes, or left my mouth feeling like it was coated in lard. What a shame we can’t experience food like we used to.

And after 49 years, sometimes we don't so we make it up with "Hey, remember that episode of Top Cat where Officer Dibble . ." I loved that show but looking back I don't think it would be on TV today. Those cats smoked, drank, gambled, scammed, boldface lied to cops, littered, sorry to ramble these thoughts just came to me.
