We reached out to Mohr to learn more about the ideas behind the cartoons. Asked about inspiration, the cartoonist replied with a line as sharp as any punchline: “Injustice (for the political ones) and pure randomness for the rest.”
Years of practice have also refined the look of the drawings. “The more an artist creates, the better they get at their craft,” the illustrator told Bored Panda. “I think my style is easier on the eye than it was ten to twenty years ago. Cartoonists never want a poorly drawn image to distract from the joke or the point of the cartoon.”
Asked whether humor can change people’s views on serious issues, the artist didn’t hesitate. “I do. I think it always has. It hasn’t ended injustice, but political cartoons have always been a mirror to the face of society. I think editorial cartoons are an important part of the information we should be consuming. It’s sad that cartoons are leaving mainstream media channels.”
And the personal favorite? True to form, the reply was short: “I haven’t made my favorite cartoon yet.”
