On more than one occasion a fellow walker in the woods has said, “ah you’re the lady with the cats”, as I walk slowly with three fluffy boys walking (sometimes) behind me! More often than not they’ll be up a tree or hiding in a bush though.

Weeeelll... Richie's a ginger. And if he's anything like the stereotype (or the ginger I had back as a teenager) he doesn't have a frickin' clue about pest control. We literally did confront Garfield with a mouse from a pet shop and he was just... befuddled. The mouse got a change of fate and was set free in a nearby forest.

And that doesn't apply to cats alone. Ever looked all over the place for something, given up, started looking for something else, and found whatever it was you were looking for in the first place but it had disguised itself as something else but it was exactly where you thought it should have been, but only when you were looking for the other thing? That's age, kids! Or a glitch in the Matrix x

Don't regularly pick up an adult cat like this - it can stress them out and actually cause physical injury, since they are too heavy to be lifted by the loose skin of their neck. In an emergency or to quickly remove them from a dangerous situation or location, it is acceptable if you can immediately support their hindquarters with your other hand as soon as they are lifted high enough.
