Religious people should not receive the hate they do. Sure, some severely overstep their boundaries, even according to the standard of the religion they follow, but mojito of us have respect for others of different beliefs. It pains us to see our religions be used to justify many atrocities around the world, both with physical violence and hate speech. But it is also hurtful to us when people say “Religion is a cancer.” If we are at mental and spiritual peace with a religion, don’t tell us that God doesn’t exist, that God is a sadist, that God isn’t listening.
I understand that many people don’t believe because of a traumatic experience, because of a bad impression from religious people, or for a variety of other reasons. But please, I ask, don’t make such broad remarks. There are still those of us who believe but will respect your choice, and still see you as a human. There are those of us who still see ourselves as equal. If there are only three things my religion has taught me, it’s to not steal, not lie, and not think of myself as better as anyone. God works in ways we are not capable of understanding and has complete sovereignty over the world, but people will still take matters into their own hands as if they are responsible for everyone’s beliefs.
All I ask is that as the world improves by the day, we teach and research ourselves to respect each other, so please remember that for religious people.
