My husband went to his manager and asked if he could be given time so he could help. His manager said sure, but why do you want to. My husband said it was because when he put in a ticket for IT, he wanted them to recognize his name and his unit and remember that he was willing to help. So he helped and, because he knew what he was doing, they finished in a fraction of the time it would have otherwise. And yes, anytime he put in a ticket he got excellent service.
I’m still stuck on “floor tiles.” I’ve never ONCE gotten to install in the floor. I was always standing in desks and filing cabinets putting ‘em up in the ceiling, and the floors were carpeted. I’d purposely wear long skirts and dresses to try to minimize the peeking, but oh, how I envy him the floor tiles. (And absolutely: This ⬆️ is how you do it. It’s way fewer syllables to diagnose “user head gap.” The former chairman of Pepsi who was running Apple when I was there is the source of my funniest IT stories. My favorite was when I’d written some software and was encouraged to show it to him. I put it on a floppy and went to his office where I handed it to him. He inserted the floppy … and I heard it clatter onto the motherboard. There was no floppy drive where he inserted it. He’s smiling, waiting for the software to load, and I was speechless. Didn’t know whether to say something or what. Panicking, I eventually, I said, “Excuse me,” and bolted. I can laugh about it now, but at the time I nearly soiled myself. What makes it even weirder is that he often sat with me at lunch because we both like to read and not be bothered while eating, so he’d sit next to me. We never had a conversation in all that time!
