When we “rate” homes, size is usually one of the first things that comes to mind. Does it have a walk-in closet? An extra room for guests? What about a gym? Or a pool?
But if you’re creative and resourceful, you don’t need a ton of square footage to have a fulfilling life. Thoughtful design can make a huge difference.
The subreddit r/TinyHouses is full of people showing off the cozy and surprisingly functional spaces that challenge our definition of “enough” space.

My Tiny Home Made Of Mud
Mud - or clay? (edit: when you follow the post, it's clay-rich soil and some other stabilizers like straw.
A growing body of research agrees that when it comes to house size, bigger may not be better.
For example, the average newly built home in the United States includes more than 940 square feet per person, up from about 550 square feet in 1973. That’s because even as the typical single-family home has grown to 2,400 square feet, the number of people living in them has simultaneously fallen to a record low of 2.5.
“What matters is not really the size of the house but what happens inside that house with relationships,” says Mariano Rojas, an economist at the National Technological Institute of Mexico. “If you move to a larger house, and you sacrifice that, then you have a problem.”

I've Lived In My 20x8 Tiny Home For The Last 3 Years, I've Learned A Lot And It's The Best Decision I Ever Made
Update. 460 Square Feet
I don't know where I'd fit all of my cats if I lived in a tiny house XD I'd have to get really creative with cat trees and wall perches so they could have areas to go to when they want to get away from each other XD
They can’t go outside where you live? My cats would go crazy if I didn’t let them out. It’s hard enough keeping the right one in (I have 3) for the vets! They even want to go out on firework night/New Years, although I don’t let them. Although I think it’s such a privilege when they choose to be near you or in the same house when they could leave at any time, it warms my heart!
Load More Replies...I could never live in a space that small. Don't the people who live in these places have hobbies, like crafts, that require a workspace? Do they not collect anything, like books, or things that give them pleasure to look at? Are they all capable of climbing ladders to sleeping lofts?
The ladder thing is my main concern as well. you need to be perfectly healthy to live in such a space, and if you ever get injured, you already have a problem.
