Where does it say 'luxury'? The question is "Which car brand's name literally translates to "People's Car"?" and under the answer it says "Volkswagen literally translates from German as "People's Car," reflecting its original mission."

Isn't any brand by now a luxury? But seriously: at least in Germany it's not considered luxury. VW is by numbers of registered cars in fact the people's car by far.

VW Golf starts at $32K, which in my book makes it a luxury. But I'd argue any car is a luxury at this point. I bought my last car brand new for $17,500, and I paid only $7,500 with my trade-in. I still have that car 16 years later, and unless prices come down, I'll probably still have that car 16 years from now. I spend an average of about $2000/year keeping that car running, that's 32K over the next 16 years. That's less than I would pay buying a new car now, and still paying to maintain it.

Not in comparison to other German car brands. But many people even here in Germany see them on the luxury side nowadays and buy a cheaper Toyota or Skoda.

Quite so. The group owns multiple brands, including VW roughly in the middle, Seat and Skoda lower, Audi higher, then Porsche and Lamborghini in the sports area and Bentley the pinnacle of luxury.
