In 2015, 16-year-old Jamie Harrington was walking through Dublin when he noticed a man sitting on the edge of the Ha'penny Bridge, preparing to end his life.
Instead of walking past, Jamie stopped and asked four simple words:
"Are you okay?"
The teenager stayed with the man for around 45 minutes, talking to him, listening, and convincing him to step away from the edge. Although the man begged him not to, Jamie called an ambulance to make sure he received the help he needed.
Before they parted ways, they exchanged phone numbers.
A few months later, Jamie received an unexpected phone call. The man shared that his wife was expecting a baby boy and told Jamie they had decided to name their son Jamie in honor of the teenager whose kindness had given him a second chance at life.
It was a powerful reminder that sometimes the smallest act of compassion can change a life forever. A simple question, asked at the right moment, can become the reason someone chooses to keep living.
