The series, Word is Bond, presents literal depictions of lyrics from rappers like Jay-Z, Biggie and Missy Elliott, in minimalistic styles influenced by modern artists like Mark Rothko, David Hockney, and Ed Ruscha.
In addition to serving as an homage to my favorite rappers and my favorite painters, the paintings (available as canvas prints) are meant to challenge the stupid notion that modern art is “high-brow,” while hip-hop is “low-brow.” Art is art (is art is art is art) – and this is my humble contribution to it.
I'm a graphic designer based in L.A., and creator of Word is Bond, a series of paintings inspired equally by early-20th century art and late-20th century hip-hop.
