    thanks for this post lol :) can anyone explain how to solve this? i need it for math and hate equations with tons of steps 8(x-2)-3(1-x)=9(x+2)+1

    so first of all you expand everything (multiplying each bracketed bit by the number on the outside of the brackets) which gives you 8x-16-3+3x=9x+18+1 then you collect all the like terms in that which is 11x-19=9x+19, then you move all the xs to one side: 2x-19 =19, add the 19 to both sides: 2x= 38 , so x=19
