I agree. I moved from a state that is considered a no tip state because waitstaff actually got paid actual minimum wage or more in some places. Not some bs pays scale specific to waitstaff. Though they would usually still make tips. But their pay did not depend on it. When my family moved they did not realize they were being rude in only tipping a few bucks. Till we learned of the atrocious pay they get.

Obviously, this is the problem. However, failing to tip your server won't cause his employer to pay a living wage, so not tipping accomplishes nothing.

Instead of commenting on what SHOULD be done (which servers cannot change), this statement is simply informing tourists of the customs of a particular country. If we must be aware of the "weird" customs in other countries, such as sh×tting in public for instance, then people can be aware that in the US, employment wages aren't great in the service industry and unfortunately servers DO depend on tipping culture to survive. If you are so against it, simply don't eat in restaurants while visiting the US. Refusing to tip because the system is broken is cruel to the individuals trapped in the system. This post is about being kind to the people who live in the country you chose to visit.
