Teas and such are generally free too, which is what I go with, that or water. I think they basically just mean the unlimited beverages in general. But yeeeaaah, that's an epidemic here for sure.

If you're homeless in Phoenix, AZ, and you go into a commercial business to ask for water, it's illegal for them to not give you a cup. They don't have to give bottled water, fancy water, or give you enough for a shower, but they need to give you water if they have it.

I wish people would understand that a lot of these things are luxuries to Americans also. I don't have a garbage disposal, air conditioning, decent heat, a washer or dryer, a large fridge, a decent computer connection, or hot water on demand. That's what it's like being poor in America. All I really have is garbage pickup, electricity, and a place of my own which I really appreciate. And having lived without electricity for so long, I can tell you guys, electricity ROCKS!

Our Danish exchange student was offended because of a couple Danish/US misunderstandings. We were driving down US 131 to Grand Rapids and got to the landfill alongside the highway at Pierson. "Oh what a pretty hill". We chuckled and had to explain the US concept of burying our solid waste, where they incinerate theirs (wish we did). One other one was we went out to eat and the waitress as if we'd like 'soup or salad'. Camilla asked, "I don't know, how big is it?". 'supersalad'

Colleges didn't start getting asinine with prices until just about 20 years ago. They have been around since the 1800s I believe though. If the people who own the colleges would stop taking the lion's share, despite not having any good reasoning for it, I ASSUME prices would be able to go back down. But nope. 30 years ago I drove my boss to an important meeting 2 hours away. Meeting was scheduled for only few hours. We arrived at 930. I waited in the lobby. (I didn't have a cellphone yet, only the rich and important people had them) Boss came out of the meeting furious. He explained that they spent the whole time till lunch on just deciding *what to have for lunch*! Then lunch lasted till 3pm. After lunch they "discussed" some "past topics". Around 5pm they finally got to the toppic (travel agency CEO's deciding on formal complaints arbitration) Took 3 hours. So they finally adjourned at 8. Boss said we should go to dinner first, then drove back another 2h. We spent 16 hours on something that required only 7. Initially only got paid 7h. But after I complained about it, the CEO made sure it was corrected and then some. The next month we did the same trip again. After half an hour my boss told the others that they either start the arbitration right now or we'd leave.
