The cover is just one thing I take into consideration when picking a book, one of many things. The cover is usually the first thing to catch my eye.

when I was in art college, we visited a sculpture park, we were encourage to touch and interract with the statues there. So long as we didn't do anything that was obviously going to damage them, it was a fun way to learn about composition of a sculpture, its mediums, it's place in it's environment, etc... so Relax, the statue is fine.
