Same thing happened last night with my sister(10), she sat up, wide awake and starting smiling at me in the most creepiest way possible. Turns out she was having a nightmare, just not asleep. Lets just say, I have never opened and ran that fast before, and I don't ever plan to. I scared her on accident because she didn't realize what she was doing and now I have a therapy lesson this saturday.
