That's true for parts of Paris, but many places in Europe have changed dramatically over the last decades!

Gassing people in concentrationcamps is a war crime. The Möhne dam and some other dams were bombed to flood the industrial Ruhr valley, destroying a lot of factories and 2 hydroelectric power stations. It was necessary to sabotage the production of Nazi weapons. 1600 civilians died. The Nazi's bombarded Rotterdam because they were angry that the Dutch resistance sabotaged them. Nearly a 1000 civilians died because of that . Now that's what I call a warcrime.
The "abbaye aux Hommes" (literally "men's abbey") in Caen ; the building on the left was part of the lycée Malherbe in 1944. It is now the town hall.

It's a good thing we moved the heavy industry out of the cities and improved our processes.
