He looks like he's up to the challenge
This past June I walked onto my porch and there was a bag of Chinese food there. I checked around with my immediate neighbors, waited a bit, but the food went unclaimed. Ever since they I pray to the porch food God's when I outside. That was a good day! For me anyway.

It it difficult to keep cats off of things, but sometimes there is something you can do. I made a border of sorts for the stove using old sheet pans and that has helped. Ihad that issue with one of my cats, Baba Yaga. Anytime I'm cooking meat on the stove she'll sit next to the counter. I kept an eye on her, but I'd worry that if I turned my back a sec she'd go for it being a determined little fatty. After I got a crock pot though, which needs to be on for a while, I had to address the issue because she would hop on over to steal the food. The makeshift border has kept her away from the food when it's cooking. After it's done though, nothing will stop her!

Almost the exact same thing happened to me when I was about 7, 8 years old. I was at my dad's and saw plants in their closet and asked what they were growing. My dad told me ' tomatoes'. About a decade later I realized 'oh those weren't tomatoes' 😅
The bonus is a pizza party. Followed by an employee lighting the place on fire. For the record, that's a fantasy, not a lie.
