I'm an artist & photographer who teaches cartooning and drawing to teens and adults and absolutely refuses to take myself seriously; life is way too short. Think big: when going after Moby Dick, bring the tartar sauce!

Some men have suppressed the urge to cry for so long that they can no longer cry even when they want or need to, when it would be appropriate. It's like a carpet that gets walked on in the same place over years. Eventually the carpet fibers don't spring back up again.

I live in Clearwater and avoid downtown Clearwater big time. It's a ghost town because of Scientology, and has a vaguely North Korea-vibe, with cult members walking around in their black pants and white shirts. The GI-normous Ft. Harrison Hotel is their base of operations, and all around downtown there are security cameras EVEVERYWHERE. No one wants to go down there. Clearwater Beach is difficult to get to, with only two roads in/out, it's narrow and jammed. There are much better beaches in neighboring towns just fifteen minutes away.

School administrators love to pull the "it's for the kids" line. And I'm not totally heartless; I have done some stuff outside the hours, but it was to meet my own expectations.

I'm a substitute teacher in a U.S public school doing a long term substitute job, approximately 1/3 of the school year. We get paid for 7.5 hours per day. No overtime allowed. We also get paid less than 1/2 a first year teachers' salary, no benefits. After getting burned by administration on my last long-term substitute job, I set some pretty hard boundaries. If I can't do it during my contract hours, then it doesn't get done or another staff member has to do it.

There are a lot of men (myself included) who have suppressed the urge to cry for so long, that some are just no longer capable of it. Even if they want to cry, they may not know how, or the tears won't come. It's a terrible burden men have grown up with.

As a man, I can confirm. Not only have we been raised with an extremely limited set of emotions that we're allowed to express, but we don't have the experience talking about them. I'm a pretty intelligent, articulate guy, but when my wife wants to talk about what I'm feeling or why, I can't think of what words I should use - IF I even know what I'm feeling in the first place! It's incredibly frustrating. It's like the right words haven't been created yet. We started watching Brene Brown's "Atlas of the Heart" show on Hulu, which describes the various emotions, exactly what they are, what words should be used to describe them, and how they affect us emotionally. Bottom line: English is a very poor language for taking about something so complex. Be patient with us, ladies, some of us are really trying.

There are no words in the English language to describe how much I hate those things. I discovered something that gets rid of them for up to a whole YEAR. Get a large bowl, combine flower, boric acid and maple syrup (or any sweet-smelling syrup). Mix until it's like peanut butter, treat the WHOLE HOUSE. Use a plastic knife and apply under sinks, refrigerators, slide some between the top of the dishwasher and underside of the countertop, in the backs of/on top of cabinets, remove electrical outlet switch plate covers and put some in there (roaches travel between the walls), behind the washer and dryer. The syrup attracts them, they cannot digest boric acid so it kills them. When their nest mates eat their droppings, it kills THEM. This is magic stuff, guaranteed!
