I so feel this one. My ex-husband is the primary caregiver for our now 17 year old daughter and always has been. He stayed home with her while I worked, until we had our second child, who had special needs. I was his primary caregiver. I've always felt "less than" because I am not the typical mother figure to her like her dad is. It's not a failure, she has a "mother", he just happens to have a penis. Because I chose to work and support my family doesn't make me any less. So infuriated that people treat others this way

My cousin took his wife's name so that the family name would not die out with her being the only female child. I've been married twice and didn't change my name either time. I like the name I was born with. I think it's weird to all of a sudden change your name. Ok, maybe not "all of a sudden" considering there was a marriage involved. but I'd like to keep one name my whole life, it's who I am. Also, my university degrees are in that name, I'd like to honor those accomplishments. Not to mention that changing your name on everything takes a lot of time and effort. Hate if you want, just my opinion

Why should it be a failure? Not being a primary parent doesn't mean not acting as a parent at all. Some parents take of their kids equally and there is no primary parent. Besides, all it means being a "primary caregiver" is the first to be contacted in emergencies and being called upon for other things involving the kid. It doesn't mean one parent is doing less parenting and not spending time with the kids.
