Half Czech, half Polish, I grew up in the Appalachian mountains and studied English and art with a focus on printmaking at Trinity College, Toronto, with an exchange year at Glasgow University. I've lived in Canada, the US, Norway, the Czech Republic, Scotland, New Zealand, Australia, and (currently) Germany. My favourite food is cheese and I like cold weather, gin, and going inside caves.

I live in East Germany and we definitely had quite enough idiots refusing to wear masks. A local baker refused to serve my husband, an emergency doctor and anesthetist on his way to work in a covid ward, because he wore a mask. He explained to them that he's protecting THEM and they sneered that it was such a shame that every single thing in the whole bakery had already been reserved by other customers and so they couldn't sell him anything. Idiots marched in protest on the university clinic, and doctors and medical students stood together against them. I wouldn't argue that America isn't the winner, but Germany is definitely not immune to ridiculous stupidity.
