Many years ago HR told me I had to fill out a form with a short description of the tasks I did in the working day. I got a message that, sadly a pigeon had flown into a glass window and died and could I move it as one or two people were upset by it lying in the carpark. I entered it in my task log and just for fun put in brackets (look up mums old pigeon pie recipe). Needless to say HR weren't impressed.

My Mom passed on a Friday night. I called my boss as Saturday was mandatory OT. "I may be gone for a week or two to settle her estate as my sister is the executor".."No problem, take care of business, we'll still be here". I called a week later to advise the company I would be back in a week. "Ok, we'll try to hold your job"...The day I came back I took my Mom's d***h cert in and slapped it down on the HR lady's desk.."This good enough?"..She wouldn't meet my eye..(small voice).."yes, that's fine". Union shop, wasn't too worried.

When my mum dïed I had one day off to arrange a few things but as we were busy was back the day after. One of the directors made a "joke" about taking time off for just anything. I let it ride but everyone knew I was pïssed. Had another day off for the funeral a couple of weeks later and when I went in next day he said "Hey. Good to see you". You could hear a pin drop. I walked over and got very close and said "if you ever utter one more word connected to this time off, you will need a dustpan to sweep your teeth up!" Went into the Managing Directors office and handed in my resignation. He was a good bloke and said "don't be hasty". I said no I'm done and luckily walked into another job a few days later.

People who start a sentence, So! The word adds nothing to what follows. That and adding the word "like" randomly in speech.

My wife and I stayed at a hotel to go to a wedding nearby. We returned after ours had finished to find the reception still in full swing. We slid onto a side table and I went to the bar to buy a drink......Free bar! Felt bad but they wouldn't take my money. Because the bride and groom had gone nobody questioned us. When we went down for breakfast the brides parents greeted us like old friends. Again felt a bit bad, but we always wondered if they ever tried to describe us to their daughter. Best wedding we've been to 5* would recommend.

How's that whole "We want privacy thing going?"
