When one person cheats, it can often set off a chain reaction, affecting their partner and other family members. This is typically the case when there is a child born from the affair, because they often have to deal with everyone’s wrath, through no fault of their own.

This is what one teen experienced, all because of her mom’s infidelity, and why she felt the rest of the family was punishing her. Unfortunately, when she finally got tired of their behavior, she shocked everyone by telling them what she really thought of them.

The poster shared that since she was the product of an affair between her mom and a friend’s husband, she was often treated differently from her half-siblings

Unfortunately, the teen’s mom never protected her at all, her stepdad always left her out of things, and her half-siblings felt she should never have been born

Eventually, when she turned 9, her half-siblings purposely triggered an allergic reaction in her, and she decided to distance herself from everyone

After many years, when one of the siblings made a joke about her, she blew up at all of them and said they’re not her family, which angered them all

The teen shared that many years ago, her mom had cheated on her fiancé with a close friend’s husband, and ended up having a baby. Even though it caused a lot of pain to her partner, she still stayed with him, and they decided to raise the child together, along with their other kids.

According to research, many affair babies grow up with parents who are physically available but often closed off emotionally. They might find themselves surrounded by family members but still unable to form a deep connection with everyone due to the unconventional circumstances of their birth.

This is exactly what the OP kept experiencing as she grew up, because her mother never protected her from anything and just took care of her basic needs. She also didn’t get along well with her half-siblings, who seemed resentful of her presence, and even their dad kept leaving her out of things.

It can definitely be tough to deal with family members who are distant or toxic like this, but experts explain that you don’t need to force the bond to manifest. It’s important to first look after your mental peace, rather than trying to mend a broken family relationship when the other folks aren’t even trying.

Since the poster was always treated like an outsider, she didn’t know how to build a bond with her family members. She also felt bad because they would find ways to make her the scapegoat or punish her even if the other children had been doing more severe things, all of which left her distressed.

The most extreme example of this was when she attended a birthday party and refused to eat a cookie that had nuts in it due to her allergies. Unfortunately, her half-siblings ignored that and smeared it on her face, which put her in the hospital, but it also showed her that none of her family members really cared for her.

In situations like this, mental health professionals advise people to take space from toxic family members who might be causing problems in their lives. This can be done by going no-contact or by implementing the gray rock method, which involves staying in touch with the mean individuals but keeping emotional contact to the bare minimum.

This is exactly what the poster decided to do, but she finally lost her cool when one of her half-siblings randomly made a joke about her, causing drama just by existing. That’s when she revealed that she no longer loved any of them and didn’t consider them family anyway, which shocked and enraged them all.

People urged the teen to cut contact with her toxic family or to get emancipated because they were not worth her time anymore

Poor OP. Definitely family members don't automatically "deserve" love, especially when they treat you horribly. One should never be made to feel obligated to love or even care about family members "just because they are family". Unfortunately for OP, she is still a minor child, so in a case like hers I would advise the same as another commenter above - gray rock them, don't do things like tell them you don't love them, even if it's true. Safer to gray rock. The parents might flip their lids and decide to kick OP out before she's ready to move out/has another place to go to, if she keeps telling them the truth. It really s***s, but she's still vulnerable right now as a minor child. It sounds like it's truly awful for her :(

I don't even know what to say. No child deserves to be treated like that

Mom sounds like a narcissist who has made OP the family scapegoat. I just read about this, because it is something that happened in my family, and it is shocking how one narcissist can get an entire family to believe everything is the scapegoat's fault. And it never ends. My mom has passed, and my family still sometimes talks about things that happened years and years ago that they continue to blame me for. OP should absolutely do their best to save up so they can escape this BS as soon as they hit 18.

Yeah, apparently 5 year-old me was responsible for taking my mom's love away from my father and was to blame for all their fights. Somehow.
