During a 2010 appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, Sofía Vergara mentioned that Colombia and Los Angeles share similar weather because of their closeness to the equator.
Letterman replied that he’d love to visit Colombia but was afraid he’d be kidnapped, playing into outdated stereotypes that associated the country with violence and crime.
Vergara didn’t bother giving the remark a serious response.
“They don’t even know who you are over there,” she said.
Her dry one-liner quickly became the highlight of the exchange.
