USGS Wisconsin Pavement Study: Pavers stay warmer and thaw faster; cutting road salt use
A comprehensive study conducted over seven winters in Wisconsin assessed how various permeable pavements perform in frigid temperatures. Interlocking concrete pavers exhibited consistently higher temperatures than pervious concrete and porous asphalt during freezing conditions. The results indicated that pavers effectively prevent meltwater accumulation, potentially minimizing the need for road salt.
