Vanguard Group, the investment giant whose offices in Malvern, Pennsylvania, have been targeted by environmentalists demanding it pressure companies to stop burning carbon fuels, now faces backlash from states who say its efforts to address climate change threaten investment profits for pension funds and other clients.

The Vanguard Group is projecting an annualized return of between 4.1% and 6.1% for U.S. stocks over the next ten years, with value stocks beating those returns.

Investors at Citigroup, Inc (NYSE:C) and Bank of America Corporation (NYSE:BAC) hardly backed proposals, essentially asking the banks to stop financing new fossil fuel supplies, Reuters reports.
