More of us are choosing to cut back on alcohol, whether that means drinking less during the week, taking a break from booze or simply opting for an alcohol-free alternative on certain occasions. This means more of us are reaching for a glass that delivers the taste and experience of wine, without the morning-after regrets. Sales of low- and alcohol-free wines more than doubled in 2024, and with the category continuing to grow, there are now more bottles than ever to choose from.
Big-name winemakers are increasingly entering the alcohol-free market, while advances in technology mean it’s now possible to remove alcohol without compromising too heavily on the flavours and aromas associated with wine. It’s worth noting, however, that some wines labelled ‘non-alcoholic’ can still contain a small amount of alcohol, typically up to 0.5 per cent ABV. That said, this is considerably less than you’ll find in some everyday store cupboard staples – even tomato ketchup can contain around 0.67 per cent alcohol.
