Inversion: Start With What Could Go Wrong
Munger borrowed this directly from the mathematician Carl Jacobi, who said the way to solve hard problems is to invert them. Instead of asking "how do I make this investment succeed?" ask "what would make this investment fail completely?" The answer is usually faster to arrive at and far more honest.
