Cars have a funny way of negotiating. A squeak appears, and somehow it becomes “probably nothing.” The dashboard light glows, and suddenly that little orange icon becomes part of the interior decor. For men over 50 who have spent decades learning how to keep a vehicle running, that instinct to squeeze a few more miles out of a questionable repair can feel perfectly reasonable, but some automotive problems deserve a much faster response.
The good news is that postponing a repair does not always mean disaster, and plenty of minor issues can wait for a scheduled appointment. The process involves knowing which ones can wait and which ones can turn a manageable repair into a safety problem, a breakdown, or a much uglier bill.
