Kemi Badenoch has appointed Alex Burghart as deputy leader of the Conservative Party as part of a reshuffle of her top team that saw Sir Mel Stride sacked as shadow chancellor.

The Conservative leader carried out most of the shake-up before Parliament’s return on Tuesday and ahead of the party’s conference in October.
