My friend Andrew Willsmore, who has died aged 74, was a documentary film editor. His credits included Paul Hamann’s 14 Days in May (1987), about a prisoner awaiting execution in Mississippi, and The Duty Men (also 1987), for which he won a Bafta Craft award.
He also edited Comrades (1985-86), a series about everyday life in the Soviet Union made by Richard Denton, Alan Bookbinder and me, as well as Chris Terrill’s HMS Brilliant (1995) and The Cruise (1998), which launched Jane McDonald’s television career. In addition he won a second Bafta for the first series of The Apprentice (2005).
