Australia's 3x3 women's basketballers made a perfect start as the sport enjoyed its Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham.

Australia opened with a 21-9 win over Scotland before backing up with a 21-15 win over Kenya in the final game of the evening.

Alex Wilson led a balanced attack with seven points in the win over Scotland, while Lauren Scherf had nine points as Australia's finished with a flurry to beat Kenya.

The Aussies were locked in a tense battle when Kenya drew level at 14-all with just over three minutes remaining, but closed with a 7-1 run to complete a strong first day.

There was also a pair of wins for Australia's 3x3 wheelchair teams.

Lachlin Dalton had a team-high eight points as the men enjoyed a 13-11 win over Canada, while the women's team shared the scoring in their 12-5 win over Scotland.
