On Wednesday night, Auston Matthews made a triumphant return to his hometown of Scottsdale, Arizona, where he achieved a significant milestone in his career. The Toronto Maple Leafs star scored his 50th and 51st goals of the season, becoming the fastest U.S.-born player to reach 50 goals in just 54 games.
Matthews' historic 50th goal came on a power play in the first period of the game against the Arizona Coyotes. Positioned to the left of goaltender Karel Vejmelka, Matthews fired a shot from the circle to extend Toronto's lead to 2-0. Assisted by Mitchell Marner and Timothy Liljegren, Matthews showcased his scoring prowess and helped his team secure a 6-3 victory.
