The former boyfriend of a German backpacker whose naked body was found at a caravan site on the NSW north coast will receive a substantial payout after a murder charge against him was withdrawn.

Prosecutors have been ordered to pay $190,000 to Tobias Moran four months after withdrawing charges against him over the death of his then-girlfriend Simone Strobel.
