An alliance of regional banks and mutual funds has trashed an industry plan to use multi-bank hubs to salvage face-to-face banking in the bush, saying it will fail customers.

The Australian Banking Association wants regulator approval for regional service commitments, a trial of up to 10 regional banking hubs, a joint funding model to back them, and regional service commitments.
