Guccio Gucci founded his eponymous brand in Florence in 1921. The family patriarch took inspiration from his employ as a bellhop in London’s legendary Savoy Hotel eyeing up the suitcases of the establishment’s wealthy patrons.
What began as a luxury leather luggage label quickly grew under the helm of his son Aldo who expanded its repertoire to include all manner of Gucci accessories including belts, gloves and the like. Over the years as iconic pieces like the bamboo-handled bag and moccasins became objects of desire, the brand evolved into one of the world’s leading, high-end fashion labels.
