You arrive and there is no one to tell you where to go
The bus from Hyderabad drops you at the edge of Bidar before eight in the morning, and the first thing you notice is the quiet. Not the performed quiet of a hill station or a resort. The actual quiet of a city that history moved through and then left. There is a chai stall, a man with a cycle, a dog on warm stone. No tour operator with a laminated board. No queue. You walk toward the fort because the fort is what brought you here, and the road to it is empty enough that you can hear your own footsteps on the basalt.
