Australia's public transport network is moving towards a green transformation with the NSW government announcing a "big bucks" investment in an electric bus fleet.

More than 1200 electric buses will be manufactured and rolled out in a $3 billion program approved on Thursday, in addition to one new electric bus depot and upgrades for another 11 sites.
