Billy Slater's bold call to parachute Tom Dearden into Queensland's halves has been vindicated with the halfback winning the Wally Lewis Medal as player of the State of Origin series.
Dearden began the series playing second fiddle to starting halfback Daly Cherry-Evans, whose spot he controversially took when Slater dropped the captain for game two.
