Controversial laws protecting a wild horse population is being repealed, with environmental groups hailing it as a victory for a famed alpine park.

Advocates say laws introduced by the NSW Nationals in 2018 to protect the "heritage value" of the brumby population and shape the current population targets have trashed Kosciuszko National Park.
