EXPLAINED: Cbs botched sean payton stat during broncos bills playoff game - The Real Truth

The Denver Broncos went into halftime of Sunday’s playoff game against the Buffalo Bills trailing 10-7 on the road.

Going into the break, Broncos coach Sean Payton granted an interview with Tracy Wolfson of CBS Sports. During that interview, the CBS broadcast showed a graphic that said Payton was 0-8 when trailing at halftime of playoff games.

That stat, of course, was wrong as Payton famously came back from a 10-6 halftime deficit against the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV. Coming out of halftime, the New Orleans Saints executed a surprise onside kick and went on to win 31-17. That’s a pretty big game for CBS to forget about:

As “Awful Announcing” pointed out on Twitter/X, that Super Bowl also wasn’t the only time that Payton overcome a halftime deficit in a playoff game. Payton also won four other playoff games with the Saints after going into halftime while trailing.

Quite a big oversight by the CBS broadcast.

Following a 31-7 loss on Sunday, Payton is now 0-1 as coach of the Broncos when trailing at halftime of a playoff game.
