EXPLAINED: Cycle lane measuring just 7ft long leaves people baffled - The Real Truth

A dad was left baffled when his local council installed 'the smallest cycle lane ever' on a busy main road - branding the seven-foot stretch 'ridiculous'. Ray McSharry was taking a morning walk down King Cross Street in his hometown of Calderdale, Halifax, when he did a 'double take' after spotting what he thought was 'graffiti' on the side of the road.

However, upon closer inspection, Ray realised that he was looking at what appeared to be a shrunken bicycle lane, or the cyclist's version of a lay-by - only around 7ft long. The puzzled 65-year-old uploaded a photo of the bizarre roadside addition in a local Facebook group, asking if 'any members of the council' could elaborate on this 'ridiculous scheme'.

Instead, the retired dad-of-three received responses from bewildered residents, who suggested everything from 'pram parking' to 'a semi-circle bike track'. Meanwhile, others joked that artist Banksy had paid a visit as some kind of prank.
